Morenz was famously known as "the Babe Ruth of Hockey" for his recognized status as the NHL's first true superstar
In January of 1937, Morenz suffered a catastrophic leg injury in play against the Chicago Black Hawks. Weeks later, a despondent Morenz worried he'd never get to play hockey again, with doctors worrying he'd suffered a nervous breakdown. While in hospital, Morenz complained of chest pains, which turned out to be the result of blood clots that led to a coronary embolism. Morenz died on March 8th, 1937
The NHL offered to cancel the Canadiens' game against the Montreal Maroons the next night, but Morenz's widow, Mary, insisted the game go on, and both teams observed a two minute silence before taking the ice wearing black armbands
Morenz was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class of 1945
Cecil Hart, who won won two Stanley Cups as head coach of the Canadiens, became the namesake of the Hart Trophy for NHL MVP, and died in 1940
Aurel Joliat won the 1934 and was a First Team NHL All-Star once, and Second Team All-Star twice, before becoming a referee. He would officiate fellow Canadiens great Maurice Richard's first NHL game in 1942. Joliat was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947, and died in 1986, at the age of 84
Babe Siebert, playing in his first season with the Canadiens, Captained the team and won the Hart Trophy in 1936-37. He had previously played for the Montreal Maroons, New York Rangers, and Boston Bruins. He retired in 1939 and was named Canadiens Head Coach, but never served in the position, because he drowned to death in Lake Huron that summer. One of the first NHL all-star games was held as a charity benefit for his family, raising 000. Siebert was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1964.
Toe Blake scored 235 goals, 527 points in 577 NHL games in 14 NHL seasons, all with the Canadiens, with the exception of his first eight games, played with the Maroons, in which he was held without a point. He won the Hart Trophy in 1939, after leading the NHL in points. Blake served as Canadiens Captain from 1940 to 1948, and went on to become the team's Head Coach, winning an additional eight Stanley Cups. Blake was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a player in 1966, and died in 1995 at the age of 82.
Autographs are largely in great shape but some have some smudging or bleeding from a water stain along the bottom edge of the page. Morenz autograph is thankfully unaffected. Page itself shows some light surface creasing throughout as well as the light water staining along the bottom edge but overall it presents well and most key autographs are unharmed

The signatures in this listing came from an autograph book owned by Donald Deas. He took this book to many NHL games and secured numerous signatures of NHL players. Most of the autographs in the book were secured during the 1936/1937 NHL season with a few others collected into the early 1940s. The ability to collect the signatures was facilitated by a friendship Mr. Deas had with Maple Leaf Gardens official scorer Bill Graham Jr. The autograph book had been stored away by the family over the last 80 years. See several other listings we have up with other pages from this autograph book.
